How does one capture a bold new vision that seeks to revitalize and build communities across the vast City of Los Angeles? This is what SGA was recently tasked with. The former Los Angeles Housing Department asked us to create a new look that would reflect its integration with the Community Development Department that also transforms its current mission from a housing developer into a neighborhood developer.
We gladly took on the challenge and worked closely with Mercedes M. Márquez and her team to turn this vision into reality. Formerly with President Obama’s Administration serving as HUD Assistant Secretary for Community Planning and Development and currently serving as Deputy Mayor for Housing for the City of Los Angeles and at the helm of the newly launched Los Angeles Housing & Community Investment Department, Márquez wanted us to produce a logo that spoke to the importance of housing having to work in tandem with other needs of the community such as health, education and transportation to truly create livable communities.
But seeing is believing, right? Why don’t we let the department’s new identity speak for itself? Check out this nifty video to unveil a new name and logo for the Los Angeles Housing & Community Investment Department. The story is about much more than an unveiling, however. It’s about what makes a neighborhood truly livable.
How do you use visuals to advance your work and mission?
